How a connection works
Connect, read-only
A service account with read permission — never write — is pointed at the source: a DMS, a share, a mailbox, an export folder. The appliance pulls; nothing is pushed out.
Index on the appliance
Documents are converted, chunked and embedded locally. The index lives on the same machine as the model. There is no upstream API in the loop.
Mirror the permissions
Every chunk carries the access list of the document it came from. At question time the index is filtered to what the asking user may open — before the model sees a single passage.
Keep it fresh
Sources are re-scanned on a schedule you set. Changed documents are re-indexed; deleted documents disappear from answers. Erasure requests are a delete on your own index.

What a connector does
- Reads documents, metadata and access lists through a read-only account
- Converts and indexes them on the appliance, inside your network
- Answers with a citation to the exact document, page or row
- Logs every query, user and source consulted — on your machine
What it never does
- Never writes back, moves, renames or deletes a source document
- Never sends a document, a prompt or an answer outside your network
- Never uses your material to train or fine-tune a model
- Never shows a user a passage from a document they cannot open
Permissions travel with the document
Access rules are not a prompt instruction; they are a filter applied to the index before retrieval. A matter locked to three people in your DMS is locked to the same three people in faradai. Ethical walls, client-team restrictions and personal mailboxes stay intact. When you change a permission at the source, the next sync applies it.
Freshness
Hourly, nightly or on demand per source. Large first indexes run in the background; a firm with a few hundred thousand documents is typically searchable within a day.
Air-gapped (Tier A)
On a fully air-gapped appliance, connectors that need the network are replaced by scheduled exports: a colleague drops files on encrypted media or an internal share, the appliance ingests them, and nothing else changes.
